Using Cheap Laptop Batteries

Using Cheap Laptop Batteries

By Ador Talukdar

Laptop computers have already replaced desktops as one of the most popular forms of computing, and perhaps the most critical component of the laptop, may be the battery. If the battery dies, it matters not how much speed or processing power or feature with which your laptop is enabled, because nothing happens with battery power if you have no other power source.

You can buy cheap laptop batteries that are made of different materials, and offer several advantages and corresponding disadvantages. The most common types of cheap laptop batteries are the Nickel-Metal Hydride, Lithium-ion, and Nickel-Cadmium batteries.

The cheapest of three types is perhaps the nickel cadmium battery, which is less costly than the nickel hydride. Alkaline batteries are recognized as the cheapest of these, but usually have higher operating costs. Other alternatives for cheap batteries include lithium ion and lithium ion polymer batteries. Lithium ion batteries weight less and last longer than others. They do not require a full charge, as some other types do, in order to be recharged.

Another type of the cheap laptop batteries, that has become popular, although it use appears to waning in recent years is the Nickel-cadmium battery. The use of Ni-cad batteries appear to be declining because of the disadvantage of faster discharge rates, and a full charge was needed to have an operating battery.

Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries will normally have more capacity than Nickel-Cadmium, will contain chemicals that are less toxic. They may also be cheaper than Lithium-ion batteries, but are also be prone to the memory effect where the maximum energy capacity is lost, if they are continually recharged after being only partially discharged.

Lithium ion batteries are among the preferred choice for replacement batteries, but before you replace your laptop battery, you should be ensure battery compatibility with laptop, and read the recommendations as provided by the manufacturer.

There are a few precautions that should be taken to extend the life your laptop battery.

• Decreasing the brightness of screen will help to conserve battery power, and remember that bigger size laptop screens consumer more energy.

• Remove any disc from the drives when they are not in use, because the drives operate automatically when a disc is detected, and spinning drives uselessly when they are not in use consumes energy. Read More…

CPU Lapping, Cpu For A Cheap Cooling Performance Upgrade.

“Lapping” a CPU includes removing the IHS (integrated heat sink) from the central processing unit. Due to manufacturing variations, the IHS on processors could possibly be slightly concave or convex. This results in an uneven contact with the heat sink which degrades cooling by a reasonable margin.

If you are an enthusiast who wants to overclock, How to lap a CPU is a really good idea. Not only is it the cheapest cooling upgrade you may do, it is also the most favorable when looking at the price/performance ratio. The extra cooling may even enable you to overclock your chip further as a result of the increased cooling.

Within this guide, I lapped an Intel Q6600 G0. Before How to lap a CPU, I was only able to overclock the chip to 3.2Ghz maximum temperature under load was 70degC for Heart 0 and 69degC for Core 1. Splendidly, you want to stay the CPU temperature below 70degC. After How to lap a CPU, the maximum temperature under load dropped to 62degC for Core 0 and 57degC for Core 1, a maximum decrease of 12degC – rather a substantial difference! As the temperature had dropped so much, I was able to bump the CPU voltage up even more and further overclock the CPU to 3.4Ghz.

Lapping your processor is quite simple and needs hardly any ability. All you need is some 600 and 1000 grit sandpaper, normally available at your local auto parts or ACE hardware store.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you discharge yourself of static electricity before touching any computer component, specially the CPU. Static electricity can permanently damage computer parts. To discharge yourself, touch something metal, such as your own COMPUTER case, or use an antistatic grounding bracelet. Read More…

Guide to Ultrabooks.

Guide to Ultrabooks

550x-Acer-S3-Ultrabook-6 By Pablo Estrada

Key Features

While an Ultrabook could be described as a portable laptop, here are specifications that set them apart. They have Intel processors, they are less than.8 inches thick, their screens vary in size from 11 inches to 13 inches, and they have a long battery life generally around 7 hours or more.

The term “Ultrabook” was penned by Intel specifically for laptop manufacturers such as Acer and Asus. This allowed them to produce sleek laptops for prices that are in the affordable “under $1,000” range. Ultrabooks are the epitome of the laptop package: portable, powerful, and most importantly affordable.

As with everything technological, Apple is pioneering the way with their MacBook Air. Most Ultrabooks on the market mimic the MacBook’s look and feel in their features and appearance.

Ultrabooks to Watch out For

The Acer Aspire has the distinction of being the first Ultrabook to break over to the other side of $1,000. Equipped with a 13 inch screen it has an Intel Core i5 processor. It also comes with 4GB of memory and a hybrid 20GB SSD and 320GB SATA HDD hard drive. Of course if that isn’t enough computing power for you, swap out the hybrid drive for a 256GB SSD. Whichever model you choose, they both weigh 3 pounds and are half an inch thick.

The Asus Zenbook retails for $999 new and weighs 2.4 pounds. The display is 11.6 inches and it has an Intel Core i7 processor. If you opt for the higher end version, you can get more SSD capacity at 256GB for $1099.

The Toshiba Portege is the world’s lights 13 inch laptop. It weighs just under 2.5 pounds and feels practically weightless when carrying it. If you get a Best Buy exclusive model, you can get it for $799. Of course if you are in the market for used computers or used laptops you can get it at a steal. Read More…
